I’ve found some of the most useful information about parkrun tourism in a few key Facebook groups. They also provide a great sense of community. The dedication of some of the members is absolutely incredible!

This is my favourite parkrun tourism group. You have to have run/walked at 20 or more venues to join, so everyone in the group is a keen and committed tourist.

Members are helpful and friendly, and the group is very active with people sharing their latest tourist exploits.

I’ve gained lots of new challenge ideas in this group and heard about lots of different parkrun courses that I’m keen to visit one day. Despite the name of the group, international tourism is often discussed.

T-shirt Tuesdays (when people share their alphabeteer/venue milestone T-shirt parkrun lists and others comment on how many matches they have) and What Shoes Wednesdays (when people ask which shoes are wisest for the course they’re visiting) are weekly features.

If you’ve seen people wearing the “cow cowl” when you’ve been at parkrun, they are bound to be part of this group. You can also get cow-themed beanie hats and caps!

parkrun tourism

There is no requirement to have visited a certain number of parkruns to join this group. The description says:

Are you a casual parkrun tourist, or an absolute fanatic? This is the place to share stories, blogs, videos and pictures from the parkruns you’ve visited in the UK and beyond…

The posts are fairly similar in style to those in the UK parkrun tourists group and there’s probably a lot of cross-over in membership.

A lovely, friendly group that does what it says on the tin. The discussion in this group isn’t solely focused on tourism and there are contributions from runners/walkers and volunteers.

There is often quite a lot of discussion about announcements and rule changes that come from parkrun HQ.
